Beleive it or not, this is a prized pet.
This image comes from Bahrein. Camels there are sometime used as working animals that may or may not end in your plate but some, like this one are prized possessions.
They have beauty contest, stamina, and even race like horses.
If you ever have the bad luck of getting onto one (other than as a tourist camel) anticipate a smelly ornery critter that will make you sea sick after a couple of miles. And, oh, take a fly swatter with you!!!
While awkward looking these are incredibly adapted to their harsh environment. They have a 'grace' of motion that is really different.
Oh, these guy do not 'drink' they siphon the water.. A few gallons at the time.
This was taken in 2003 with a Fuji Pro S.

I remember seeing them on the Amazing Race a few years ago. They were a handful.
What a fantastic post! Very interesting info and a super shot as well...and after reading this I know I'll never hop onto a camel's back. lol
I knew a woman whose daughter had a camel & a horse. If she spent time with the camel & then the horse, her horse wouldn't let her get near it until she showered first. Apparently camels are just that pungent.
Nice shot & back story. ;-)
