I have a canon PRO 100 printer,I use Apple's 27" and 15" MacBook pro computers . Since upgrading both too
"Cataliana Ihave been unable to open the user manual I had downloaded sometime ago, after going to canon"s support and down loaded the software for the user manual I stil cannot open the town to install on the computer. I have contacted both Apple and Canon and they were no help they both told me to contact the other. Has anyone have this problem and were you able to open the manual software? Please help if you have solved this problem.Thank you looking forward to your response.

They don't work and won't work with Catalina, I ran the system report and then Legacy Software, below are the results for Canon on my system, until Canon updates it to 64-bit it will not work.

Gotta love buying a computer and then having the manufacturer tell you what software you can use. Oh you have to buy newer versions of half your software? Too bad, so sad.

Yep, it has been the same since the first PC came out, I would usually upgrade only when software I used or wanted would not work on the computer I had.

But in this case the OP upgraded to the new OS and had he checked his system before hand he would have known which pieces of software were not going to work and then held back upgrading until the software was updated.

But if you go and buy a new Mac you do need to know that lots of your old software won't work.

The Canon printer on-screen manual is software.

This is at least half BS! Apple has sold 64-bit computers for over a decade! They've been telling software vendors EVERY YEAR at the Apple Developers' Conference that they would eventually ban all 32-bit code from their computers and phones.

Blame those developers who are too lazy to care.

There IS a workaround for this, if your computer has enough RAM, drive space, processor cores, and VRAM. If you install Parallels Desktop Virtualization software, you can run Windows, DOS, Linux, and older versions of MacOS on Catalina. If you have a mission-critical app that is 32-bits, either don't upgrade, or revert to a previous backup system, or install Parallels. OR, you can partition your drive and add the old system onto the new partition with your 32-bit apps.

Every time I update a Mac, I keep a bootable clone of the old drive on an external drive. Booting Macs from external drives is easy... Hold down the Option key AFTER the startup chime, UNTIL you see a menu of drive choices.

Support people love a problem involving something else. I can just picture the smile coming over the guy's face when he hears that there is another product involved.

Unbelievable! Canon's version of a PDF file can't be opened on an Apple unless certain conditions are met. I have a 21.5" and 27", and I'm sticking with the OS on them now.

Jerry, it's a 32-bit *Canon application* in play. It's not a PDF.

Apple Preview and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC both work fine to open PDFs on Macs. If Preview won't open a PDF (rare), Reader DC will.

See above for my strategies for dealing with this issue. They really work. I've been using them for years.

There is a huge compatibility difference between 32-bit and 64-bit programs.
