Anti Virus Software

Now that my Norton subscription has ended I get constant screen pop-ups letting me know that it has ended. They want $49.99 (why not just $50?) for another year. I've heard that Microsoft, through it's Windows 10, has good anti-virus software integrated with it. Is it necessary to add Norton (or another product) into the mix? I'm also running Malwarebites.

Not sure, on my windows computer I just use the windows one, I think it is Defender, touch wood, I haven’t had any virus problems on it. On my Macs I use malwarebytes. I always found Norton to use too many resources, could be I never had it set right.

Uninstall the Norton.
The windows 10 built in anti-virus should kick in automatically.
It's called Windows 10 defender.
Originally defender wasn't rated to well. They have since made significant improvements to the point that it is right up there with the best of them.

Here's a link that tells how to check if it's running

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Norton is now gone and Defender us up and running.

Do a search for the "Norton Removal Tool". Otherwise it is going to leave a lot of crap behind which will still use system resources and nag screens popping up from time to time.

An excellent AV is Bitdefender. Runs without hiccups with windows defender and router firewalls.

Agree with the suggestion to uninstall Norton (and as suggested, make sure you install all its components). Windows defender (if kept up to date) is just as good, free and not a resource hog like Norton.

No, that is the only one I have running on my computer for years without any problems. Whenever i had a new computer that came with Norton, that was always the first thing i got rid of, thats the worst thing one can have on the computer. I always got rid of that crap and never looked back!

I run BitDefender in addition to Windows10 and it does find additional viruses and deletes them. It also detects viruses which may be in websites. I run a complete system check as well every week.
