If anyone wants Elements 2020, Amazon has it on sale today for $55.99 and gives a $10 gift card with the purchase. As for me, I’m still using Elements 9. It works on Windows 10, does what I need and I’m comfortable with it.

And keep in mind that Corel's Paintshop (which is very much the same as Elements) is only $39.99 for an upgrade to their 2020 Ultimate Edition. Worth a look see, I've had great success using predecessor editions for years. It works great with Topaz and other Photoshop plugins too.

I regretted paying for ver. 13 when I'd only had 12 for a couple of years because I didn't find anything new that I personally needed. I was replacing a computer at that time and figured might as well go fresh with newest PSE even though I could have easily installed #12 from download license (you can place on two machines). Then I did need to jump to 2018 in order to have my newly purchased camera's raw files recognized by Adobe Camera Raw because PSE had stopped supporting (updating) ver 13.

You do not have to buy new each year, and as the OP mentioned, version 11 is still working fine. If your question means you're considering a switch to Elements, take advantage of the 30-day trial to see if you like it better than LR.

I only upgrade if the new (stand alone) version will do stuff I "need" that my current version will not.
(I finally upgraded one editor after, lets say, seven or eight years... )
I do try to keep my OEM RAW editor current though.

In your screenprints you're showing the expert mode tools in one, and the quick edit tools in the other. Apples and oranges

2020 seems to have a number of new useful tools. Of course, my purchase timing for the 2019 version was perfect.... 2 months ago and I've used it twice. Hmm, that begs the question whether I needed to upgrade from 2014 in the first place? I asked myself that question when I saw the special price this morning and have yet to answer myself.

Essentially the same tools in Expert mode. 2020 has reconfigured some to combine features and reduce steps to get to the end result. My experience with Elements is that the older versions do what the newer versions do but you have to work harder at it. It’s like creating an edit in Quick mode and then going to
Expert mode to see how Elements made the changes.

It can be difficult to know when to ignore the little voice in your head

I took advantage of the sale. When I got it & tried it out, I found the previous versions were more to my liking, so I think I'll return it (I have 30 days).
Does anyone else feel the same?

I did the same thing only to find out after I downloaded the newest version that it was only supported for Windows 10 and that some features were not compatible with my Windows 7 that I refuse to give up! In addition the interface was not at all to my liking and the newly promoted feature to easily remove unwanted items from a photo or to move the item into another photo was no better than the process I sometimes utilize in my current (old) PSE 10! With a bit of perseverance, I finally reached an Adobe customer service rep who promptly issued me a full refund.

Lightroom seems to be the "cats meow? I will think about PSE.
The subscription plan is not a problem.
Thank You.

With Lightroom and Elements here again you are comparing apples to oranges. Elements can push, transform, replace and create pixels. Lightroom can only adjust the parameters of existing pixels.

When it comes to Adobe Elements apps, I wouldn't upgrade every year; I'd upgrade every other year. You won't see that much difference. But if you want to see what the differences are simply google it or go to the Adobe website and find out there. There might be something different that makes a difference that you have not discovered on your own.

I just upgraded from the Premiere 15 to 2020. That's 5 years worth of differences that I think WILL make a difference.

You are right. Here's the "expert" version.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I teach Elements classes and highly recommend that you keep 2020 because of the much newer technology and new things. I teach all beginners in the "Expert" Mode because it gives you the most flexibility. I then spend about 5 minutes talking about the Guided which has some great tricks. Keep 2020 since your version of Elements is so old.

More specific... I have been using Photoshop Elements 11 and I find it has more options than the new one.

PSE has three different modes. Your screen shots are two different modes. You are comparing oranges to asparagus with the screen shots.

Update: I see you caught it (thanks to Linda) in a later post.

But I stayed with fruit while you went outside the box with asparagus

I think based on the suggestions on this site Lightroom is the way to go. What ever LR does it has won a lot of converts.
