A preying mantis

That came to a bad end.
Somehow it got skewered and stuck to the spines of a cactus. Opuntia cacti are hardy in Maryland.
Some growing to nice clusters.
The mantis was dead, so I kept it.
The following pictures are not worth many words. I was cold and shivering and it shows. I hope it gets the point across, tho.

Good find of an unfortunate way to go although I imagine that it's better than getting its head bitten off. I find mantis to be fascinating creatures. Thanks for sharing your find.
