I own the Nikon 50mm f1.8G. I use it mostly during the summertime to shoot photos of kids playing soccer during the day, from the sidelines. It catches the action well. And, to think it is a FX lens, that only cost me about $220 brand new. I get a FOV of 75mm on a DX camera. Which makes it ideal for portraits as well. I just couldn't see spending the extra dollars for a f1.4 50mm. An earlier thread has a link advertising a holiday price of $177 for the f1.8 version. From B&H.
First question, how much do you shoot at 50mm? My other comment is that f1.8 is fantastic for low light. If your camera has a focusing motor in it, I'd go with the f1.8D rather than the f1.8G.

I'm looking to get a nikkor 50mm prime. Is there that much difference between the 1.4 and the 1.8. Please PM me if you can as I waited to the last minute and want to order it today. Thanks.
Yep, about $240. 😜🤪
Thanks to all who replied. After all that I've decided to go with the Tamron 45mm 1.8.
