I have Nikons D7100 and D7200 cameras both are 24 megapixels yet using the same size card and shooting raw with both, the D7100 starts off with considerably more pictures. Anyone know why?

Some things to check. Are you using different raw settings for bit depth and compression? Are you saving raw + jpeg on the D7200?

I agree. Probably different settings on the two cameras.

You may have one camera set to record .jpeg or RAW and the other camera set to record .jpeg + RAW.

Must be the SD card then. Maybe they are different cards or you have some pics on one of them. Try to format both cards and see if that makes a difference.

Make sure you have the latest firmware in each... may just be different processors.

Can you elaborate on this statement a little more? What do you mean that it starts off with more pictures?

The 7100 has expeed3 and the 7200 has expeed4. May be the difference

What do you mean "starts off with more pictures"? Do you mean the estimated pictures remaining counter on the top LCD with both cards empty?

The predicted number of shots on the older Nikons was always about half the truth ...the later ones its more accurate. If you think its the cards just swop them over .
