The Nikon SB-500 and SB-700 speedlights are on sale right now. I've never seen Nikon have a sale on their speedlights. If you're thinking about a new speedlight, get one soon. I just ordered another SB-700. I will use two to fire into an umbrella.

Too bad you didn't choose a Godox V1 N and got a better flash for less money.

Both much older, discontinued speedlights.
Or a Neweer 750 for a LOT less money. Built like a working machine, same functions as the Nikon. Nikon speed-lights are obscenely expensive.
Another vote for Godox.
It's hard to justify paying Nikon prices for accessories when the equivalent knockoffs have the same or better performance and features for a lot less money. As an example, I bought a Meike power grip for my D850 with built in wireless remote trigger that the Nikon product doesn't offer. It is built and works every bit as well as the Nikon power grip I have on my D500. It is obvious Meike stole and reproduced the design. The money I save in accessories is set off to the side for Nikon bodies. I know this strategy takes revenue from Nikon, but consumers don't like being over charged.

Your information is wrong. Both are current speedlights in the Nikon lineup. The SB-500 was released in 2014. It's far from being discontinued. It will continue to be made for many years. The SB-700 was released in 2011. It's older but still a current model in the Nikon lineup.
