I have a Nikon AF NIKKOR 28 -105mm 3.5 - 4.5D, that is too old for repair. Are there any uses for these. I feel like I can't just throw it out?

What about taking it apart and having a look at how a lens functions and the various parts you may have heard about over the years. if you figure out what you want to do with the lens, be sure to let us know here at UHH, please.

Sorry to hear that. Those are IMHO one of NIKKOR’s best sleeper lenses.

Depends what is 'broken'. You could reverse fit it using a step ring from one lens to another for macro in manual focus. (or macro tubes)

Maybe a school could use it.

Sell it for "parts" and buy another one on Ebay. Like LWW said, these were one of the best "little-known" Nikon lenses made. Images with mine have always been crisp and snappy, and even more so with my D850. Vastly superior to Nikons 28-100mm G that came along later.

I have used my 28-105 3.5-4.5 AF for many years and I still do. It is a lens with low distortions and very good optics. The "macro" function is very useful. I have excellent portraits made with it at 105mm setting.
It is better to buy a used one than to spend big money in repairs and I do not know what is broken since you did not discuss it. If it is the AF that is broken simply use it in manual mode or as I have suggested buy a used one to use the AF.

I've used an old 50mm lens as a magnifying glass for years. Good image quality, of course.

Here's a fellow that used an old zoom lens as a way to elevate the subject up and down in front of the camera for macro photography. The sliding table provides the X & Y axis and the old lens provides the Z axis.

What does the lens not do? What is wrong with it? Then we will know how to advise you besides the "being too old" analysis.
