BTW: I think, a polarizing filter might help for ptarmigans on snow, because the light reflected from snow has a different angle than the light reflected from the plumage?

There are 4 birds. The other stuff that vaguely looks like bird's eyes are actually the base of branches jutting from the snow.
Great shot! The framing really sets the bird as the subject.
