Look at the samples we give them:
Tarzan lives half naked all the time
Cinderella stays outside her cerfew - and gets rewarded for it
Pinocchio lies all the time
Aladdin is the king of thieves
Sleeping beauty is lazy and sleeps all the time
Snow white lives with seven dudes
Red riding hood does not listen to her grand mother
And then, in France some primitive named Asterix drugs himself with a 'magic potion'. His dealer? The village priest who also produces the stuff.
So why are we surprised that our kids and teens are confused?

I questioned Superman as I did not trust anyone who wore shorts outside of their leotards.

It actually is Asterix. I'm surprised that I knew because I don't think it is well known outside of France.

Asterix was wonderful! The German translation was quite good. The English was beyond awful. Terribly boring in English.
