Changing times in cameras are big time changes. Shocking.
I follow the The Photoblogger. It is on my newsfeed on my iPad.
THIS IS A LIFT OF VERY CHALLENGING CHANGES FOR ALL OF US
A recent post over on Fuji Rumors shows just how powerful Sony has become in the camera market. Recent numbers show that Sony took home a whopping market share of 42.5% in 2018, while Canon netted just 19.8%. Fujifilm wasn’t far behind Canon with 17.5%, but the struggle was real for Olympus, Panasonic, and Nikon in 2018, who only had market shares of 8.4%, 7%, and 4.6% respectively. The rest of the camera makers such as Pentax, Hasselblad, Phase One, and Leica make up the remaining 0.2%. Ouch! The link of whole blog.
https://www.thephoblographer.com/2019/11/21/this-is-why-sony-got-42-5-of-the-mirrorless-camera-market-in-2018/This is not my battle the cameras and lens brands etc. It looks like a change in the business of imaging
and the equipment we use. I certainly am not saying don't buy a Nikon. Had many, many over the years and switched from D800 (2) to mirrorless Sony's. Even though Sony's sales are way lower.
And the improvement in smart phones is making them an option for some creation and biz uses.
I had a production company and over years dumped (couldnt find a donation or giveaway) 4 track audio decks. Sony video decks 8k. Fax machines I had the first Murata. And sent a bunch of old cameras
and got a few bucks for them. One Nikon film camera got $200 bucks.
My thought is will our favorite wonderful manufacturers etc be their for us.
I just moved back to PA and after searching for a place to give my 1000 CD's
donate them etc dumped them. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Tom

I take your point concerning the changes in the A/V industry, but to clarify: the market share quoted refers to MIRRORLESS cameras only. When viewing the total camera market, Canon owns approximately as much market share as Sony, Nikon and Fuji combined.
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their mirrorless camera.
