Beautiful image of some awesome country. In an attempt to get a sense of scale, I looked pretty closely at the image in DDL. I see a fenceline in the lower right of the image. How high would that be?

Thank you randave. That would be a standard fence at about 4 ft high. I don't think it's a deer fence, but if it was it would be roughly twice that.

It looks to me as though the darkest values are faded to some degree on the right, and dissipate to the left. It looks a little unnatural to me, but knowing you, this is probably pretty much how it was. I pulled up the darks a bit and then burned the shadows along the shore from left to right and that gave my eye more freedom to sweep across the expanse. It is a fine view.

Yes, it was quite heavily shadowed, which is a good thing because that's why the detail on the sides of the mountains is so vivid. So I didn't want to lift the shadows globally too much. I did selectively lighten some of them because they were a bit too eye-catching, but I was wary of lightening them too much. Large adjustments are really tricky to get just right because they can necessitate an increase in contrast, saturation and in some cases a WB adjustment to keep them looking normal (or close to). In many cases the shadowing means that the contrast and colour are severely diminished.

The large, deep shadow on the right is from Cul Beag which is just out of frame.

Impressive to say the least. I had taken it for a pano.

Cul Mor, Canisp and Suilven (shown from right to left) are all to be found in the estate called Inverpolly, so I've decided to call this image my Pollyscape.

WOW, I can really feel the expanse of this image. Beautiful capture and I love those lakes. I thought that there was a lake at the top of the mountain, until I pixel peeped to see that it was a shadow. I'm just a repeat offender and an unrepentant pixel-peeper LOL.

Great capture and post-processing
Mike

Thank you Mike. Don't worry - your secret's safe with us .

What you say about capturing the feeling of expanse is reassuring. That's usually the first thing to go when you condense a wide vista down into a small screen-sized image. In this situation it would be wrong to dismiss a photo because of average micro-detail. The sense of scale and distance has more to do with clarity for distant objects plus a sequence of receding features.

Certainly doesn’t look like it gets a lot of tourist. But a wonderful image.

Thank you Frank. It gets lots of hillwalkers and climbers and it's busier in the summer. I met three groups of people on the way in and back out again.
