Has anyone on here ever used a Photostick before? I saw it advertised on Facebook. You store your Pics on it I guess, like a thumdrive but i guess better. Just wanted to get feedback of anyone that has ever used one.

You might want to do a UHH search...I think there was a post within the last few weeks of someone that bought one and it didn't work and they were having a hard time with the company.

A thumb drive is one of the backup methods I use. Copy and paste.

I would buy a small external hard drive for backups. It will be by far cheaper per MB of drive space and far more reliable than a thumb drive. The only thing nice about thumb drives is they are small.

The photostick, and there are two companies making them with slightly different names, probably runs a small program that finds your photos on your hard drive and copies them to the otherwise ordinary thumb drive.

I have several, they do what they say. When you transfer it will automatically pick up where you left off. a very good product.

I have one but I don’t care for it . I expected it would keep the file names but instead it’s just the numbers.

Never used one. (Won't either.) I think they have software on them that does stuff for you.

I just use a USB stick and copy the files I want to it with Windows Explorer.

Why I never use Search - Although this topic has come up several times, the only result I got just now was this post.

Previous comments from owners were favorable. I remember one saying that it found pictures he didn't know he had.

An idea: get a free app called Everything and so a search for various photo extensions, like jpg, tif, nef, etc. Clicking on the "Picture" option is too general. I just did that and got 63,255 results, many associated with programs.

Try this for google:

photostick site:uglyhedgehog.com

Ignore the adverts and "people also ask".

I will search page contents also.

Not better than a thumb drive. It is a thumb drive but it has its own software to find photos and copies them the way it wants to do it and not the way you might want to do it. If you don’t know how your OS manages files so you can do it yourself, I guess it’s an OK thing. For me, it’s just another gimmick.

I purchased one and received one from a different company as a gift. Neither one worked. I was so disappointed.

I would make sure the volume of photos will fit on a thumb drive. I just purchased two 5TB external hard drives for photos. I tried to put them on a 1 TB external, but I had a much bigger collection than I thought. Needed nearly 3TB of space for everything. I did copy RAW, TIFF and JPEG photos, so it is quite a large amount of data. The storage capacity of externals is so much more in such a tiny space. Each of these 5TB units is as large as the old 1TB units. Having recently been hacked, and two of my three external hard drives was wiped clean before I realized what had happened, I am now more cautious than ever before.
