Camera Access Door For Porch Screen

I have googled this topic and came up with nothing: We have a wonderful screen porch on the rear of our home right where my wife feeds birds the year around. I want to cut a small access door (perhaps 6” x 6”) in one of the screens to photograph birds through. I need it to close when not in use and I would like it to look as nice as possible because it will be there the year around. I’m pretty handy and I like making things like this but I would buy something too. Any suggestions are appreciated. Jeff - ashriverguy

Might be easiest to just install a pet door at the height you want. Either just poke the camera lens through the pet door or latch it open in some way.

Here you go, under $20 on Amazon - get the small one 8"x9" - scroll down for good photo.

Although it would be easy enough to make a small pivoting door in the screen, making one that would seal tightly would be a challenge. How about cutting a hole attaching a piece of Plexiglass? Maybe better than shooting through the screen.

How about this? Cut the hole and then line either both pieces or just one piece (screen or your little door) with sticky-sided rubber insulation. When you pull it closed, the rubber - one layer or two - would make a good seal.

Thanks to all of you for your great help. I’m going to go with the pet door option.

how do you mount a pet door into the fabric of the screening? Every pet door that I've seen is mounted on a hard (rigid) part of the door. Without knowing the geometry of your screen door ,I wonder, would you have to lie on your belly to get the camera low enough oto shoot through the open pet door.
Pet doors are made to be self closing. You might be frustrated trying to hold the door open with one hand while trying to manipulate the camera controls with the other.

How about cutting a square out of the screen and take some Velcro with adhesive and apply around square opening and around a larger “patch” that you can cover the opening when you finish shooting.

No need for a door - just put your lens almost against it and you’ll not see the screen.

I do the same thing. I put my lense against or almost against the screen and take the shot. Never see the screen and it does not blur the pic.

Thank you all for the suggestions but I think I’m going with the small pet door made for screens.

How about, cut 6 inch square on three sides. Leave the bottom uncut. Glue velcro to the three cut sides. Rip open the velcro flap. Shoot. Close the velcro flap,
