Nikon AF NIKKOR 28 -105mm 3.5 - 4.5D

I am trying to get this lens repaired. It doesn't focus well and the macro switch is very hard to move.

On the Nikon repair web site it asks what I am getting repaired. I typed in what is above and nothing came up that allows me to click on it.

There is a number I found near the mount - US 290016, is that the serial#?

Any help is appreciated.

Quite simply, that lens is so cheap that it is not worth getting repaired. Just go buy another if you really must have the lens.

My non-humble opinion reflects jcboy3's It is a good lens, I enjoyed mine. It is available rather often on the market, because Nikon made a blue million of them. Then sell your old one for "parts only", and recover some of your cost. Some good equipment comes from Japan on eBay, but you should be careful...My "thing" I look for is "brassing" on the lens mount. One Japanese seller may or may not have attempted to minimize brass showing on a lens I was looking at, and I questioned him about it , which he readily admitted. So...Caveat Emptor! And good luck! Another thing...the original lens hood is a MONSTER! I found another one by Nikon of better size that fit perfectly, with no vignetting.

I was loaned a copy of this lens to try; from my first tests the lens sure could use a tripod beyond around 50mm setting. The copy I have did produce some nice black and white stills and videos on a D7100 body. I might be able to get this lens for around $50 with a Tiffen CPL included.

It's a great, film-era lens. It covers a full frame camera. The price of a used one will likely be lower than the repair.

Couldn't have said it better. My images from this lens have always been sharp and snappy. If the focal range is right for you, get a previously owned one in great condition and have fun.

It is a good all around lens with a very useful "macro" setting. I bet the repair cost is going to be more than the actual price of the lens.
You can get excellent used ones at a reasonable price with a 6 months warranty with many reputable dealers.

I have one and use it occasionally. It goes down to half life-size but the IQ can't match a true macro lens. As others have said, better to just buy another one than get yours repaired. I doubt Nikon would repair it considering its age. A local shop may though but, to me, it wouldn't be worth it.

Yes, looks like a Nikon S/N.

Here is one, probably cheaper than repair...and you can send it back if you don't like it: https://usedphotopro.com/catalogsearch/result/?f=Nikon+AF+NIKKOR+28+-105mm+3.5+-+4.5D&q=Nikon+AF+NIKKOR+28+-105mm+3.5+- I think it was around $100

For repair, you will probably need to hit one of the smaller shops (If Nikon doesn't still support) - but first, I'd call them and ask, they probably don't have links to a lot of the older stuff.

Old metal AF Nikkors - great old lenses: I don't have that one, but do have the 35-105 AF Macro and love the old tank, also 28-200, 70-210, 70-300, 50, and a couple others..

You can get that lens in excellent condition for a bit over $100.
