I just spent a beautiful weekend with my dad driving this historic byway. It begins in Talehina OK and ends in Mena AR. The actual byway is only about 50 miles long but there are back roads off the main byway that take you through interesting small towns and thick forests. This late in the fall most of the color is gone but it is still beautiful. There is also Heavener Runestone Park just outside of Heavener OK where a runestone was found and is believed to have been made by the Vikings sometime between 600 and 800 A.D. You also can't pass up eating great food in a converted rail car diner called Southern Belle. If you are in Poteau OK on a Saturday night be sure and stop by the Senior Center for live band Karaoke. They will welcome you with open arms and a smile.

Here are some of the highlights of our trip. I hope you enjoy them.

Wow, Keni! Some really beautiful light and pleasing compositions of autumn scenery. I love the close-up of the metal building with fan and light post. Super-cool!

I don't love the train track pic, mainly because of the controversy these always generate: you're trespassing, it's dangerous, people have died taking pictures like this, etc.

Thank you Linda. You are the one that opened my eyes to look for the light and I cant thank you enough for your help and encouragement.

As for the train shot, I didn't think about it being trespassing. I did have a spotter with me and the train had just passed. We discussed the probability of another train coming so soon afterwards. I do have to say that I added the train to my photo. I was not close to the tracks when it passed. I used another train I shot the following day that was sitting at the station. We took every precaution to avoid any accidents. That being said I understand and appreciate your concern. As a hobbyist no photo is worth risking your life for.
