I also have a D500 and feel the same way. Never say never, but at this point the D500 will be my last camera.

Ohhhhh, the D550 is coming, I would not say things like that if I were you. It is just around the corner, and it will be jammed packed with new, improved, delectable goodies. Just you wait.

I found myself shooting a bit more video on my 5Ds still camera and found it to be very cumbersome, especially in bright daylight and yet very rewarding.

I took the plunge with the EOS RP with 24-240 zoom to replace My old 70D backup camera that I rarely used.

I am very happy. For the most part all the nay saying about the RP's video capabilities are pretty much nonsense to me. The new firmware update puts much of it to rest. If there is a downside to the video on the RP, you won't be shooting slow motion 4K.

The dynamic stabilization on the lens allows me to take stable video while walking. All my Canon glass just works and if anything the focus is much faster and more accurate in the automated modes.

Its the same full frame sensor as the 6D and has Canon's latest processor.

Get extra batteries though. The new camera and batteries are smaller, and the batteries won't last a long outing.

Keep thinking I would like another camera for a backup. With some good sales, maybe. In the back of my mind I am wondering about next year's cameras/ Things are changing fast. With the expected new dslrs and potentially pro mirrorless wondering about jumping the gun. Probably last camera I will get and if the new canon 5d 5 is a big upgrade I might cry. No body wants to see an old fart cry.
My reason for wanting a back up now is I find myself doing more stuff for others (weddings, school stuff ect). A back up with the same controls (think muscle memory) is important.
So anyone else thinking about a new toy?

My “new toy” turned out to be an “old toy.” Nikon D90 in like new condition. Wanted one 10 years ago when it was new but didn’t want to spring for the $1,000 price tag. Got it for a fraction used this year. A fun toy shooting with state of the art technology from 10 years ago. Uses most all of my lenses so it makes a great backup to take shooting. I can go long on one and go wide on the other. Controls are fairly similar also. If you really want the latest and greatest get it now so that you can enjoy it now. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. Merry Christmas to yourself 2019 and happy shooting!!

Good luck. I have a Nikon D500. I love it. Most likely, the last camera I'll buy.

Never, EVER, say "the last camera I'll buy"!!! I said that about my Honda VFR800f (though in this case it was bike not camera) and I've cursed myself every day since!

Good luck with that. Here in the UK Audi has had its best ever result in the J D Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study. However that is only 22nd out of 24 brands assessed. Only BMW are consistently worse.
