I recently purchased a used FZ1000 for a few hundred dollars.
I was intrigued by the bridge camera craze that I have been reading about. I have been looking for a smaller camera to take with me when I travel for business.
I am used to Canon 7D series, 6D series and 5D series with L lenses.

In playing with the camera, getting to know it and deciding if I was going to keep it i noticed some things that are very different:

1-EVF I read in the reviews that the EVF on this camera is remarkable.
2-Button placement. I find the ergonomics of this camera do be difficult to work with.
3-Menu system. Well, I am used to Canon so anything else would be different.
4-IQ. I shoot in raw. I did some test shots in JPG and was surprised and not in a good way at the IQ. I got more detail with my Google Pixel 3.
5-Image Stabilization. I guess it works.

I am still new to playing with this camera, however I find that it will be acceptable for stationary subjects and difficult to use with moving objects. I just don't find the EVF and focus able to keep up.

I am including some images of my puppies. Most are stationary, however the picture of my Lab and Chessie are moving.
All were shot with the Panasonic.
I noticed after posting that all the shots were shot at 1/160. I thought I set it for 1/1000

Anyone else have the same issues?
I am ok if it is "just me".

Thanks

It's a snapshot camera, nothing more.

I guess my expectations were just too high.
These were shot in daylight and they are noisy.

The Panasonic FZ1000 is one of Panasonic's best Bridge cameras. Their best is supposed to be the FZ2500. One uhh member, posted a thread some time ago, and said she sold her FZ1000 to purchase a FZ2500. After receiving her new FZ2500, she was dissatisfied with it, returned it, and bought another FZ1000. She may have been the only person to have done that. And she didn't mention any other cameras she owned. Particularly a DSLR. A Sony Bridge camera, RX10iv is undoubtedly the best. A Bridge camera is the next best thing to a DSLR.. Good luck with the camera.

The FZ1000 has been around for awhile and is a well-respected camera. Perhaps yours is an isolated problem. I’ve never heard anyone complain about it before. And it is more than just a “snapshot camera.” However, if the EVF is a problem, perhaps the newer FZ1000 V2 has had the issues you mention addressed. You didn’t say when you got this camera, but you might also consider returning it and getting another one, or upgrading to the version 2.

I do have to agree that if one is serious about photography and just wants to use a bridge camera, the Sony RX10 V4 is the (expensive) way to go.

I received the camera last Thursday.
As I mentioned, this is an alternative to bringing my kit on a plane when I travel. I am not a Pro Photographer, I make my living doing other things for Canon. I often however wish I had my camera to take pictures at some of the places I visit.

I don't expect it to match up with the DSLR's and L Lenses I have, I was just surprised at the current IQ.
As I also mentioned, it could just be that I don't have the settings optimized yet.
The FZ1000, according to the reviews, matches up quite well to the Sony 10 mkiii. Have no doubt, I will not lay out the money for a new or used Mk IV.

I was just interested in the thoughts of hoggers that have used bridge camera's, specifically the Panasonic FZ1000.

I didn't know there was a Version 2 to the Panasonic FZ1000. I checked the price, and it is $300 higher than Version 1. At $898.

I bought the FZ80 used for $230 on ebay. It has a 20mm-1200mm lens. I set it to center point autofocus. It shoots raw. It shoots in auto or manual settings. I think your iso and shutter speed was too high. The shots look overexposed. These cameras do better at lower iso and lower shutter speed.

I don't think they are are over exposed. If they were, they wouldn't have the noise distortion. this happens when a underexposed image are modified.

You definitely got a deal on that camera. If you own a Canon 7D, 6D, and 5D cameras, with L lenses. I'm sure you will eventually figure out that camera. Settings in different Brand cameras can be sometimes challenging, because of their menu system. I have a Sony pocket camera and found that out quickly. Enjoy your Panasonic FZ1000 camera. It is not a snapshot camera. It's their 2nd best Bridge camera., according to Panasonic. You may want to look into an inexpensive external flash unit for it later.

This is a link to a gentleman who uses the FZ300, the small sensor brother to the FZ1000. Skim the article, but pay special attention to the images. He shoots and posts .jpg files right from the camera, which should lay to rest the idea that these bridge cameras are not up to the task of great imaging.

As I'm finding with my FZ300, and as suggested in the article, we will need to fine-tune our settings on these bridge cameras, to get what we're used to seeing. Unfortunately, that means spending time with the menu systems on these things, which can be quite confusing and deep. However, as I've read here, complex can be the case with something as "simple" as the point and shoot Sony DSC-RX100 VII.

Graham Houghton, who you can find on Youtube, has some instructional videos on my camera, as well as the FZ1000. Between the videos and the manuals he publishes, there may be help with getting used to the details of the ergonomics and menus of the FZ1000.

I picked up at FZ1000 during the Amazon Prime Day event in July. It was very inexpensive, less than $100, so I ordered one. For a bridge camera with a 1-inch sensor, it produces decent results. The autofocus system is never going to be as good as a DSLR, and, coming from Nikon DSLRs, the menu system (to me) takes some getting used to. The good news is that there are five FN buttons, so I find myself using those more than digging too deep into the menus. As jazztrader noted, you may want to check out Graham Houghton's video series on the FZ1000 on YouTube. He does offer useful tips about the camera, as well as how to get best results.
