Tip: How to Add Luminar 4 Plugin on a Mac

I installed Luminar 4 recently and 'assumed' using it as a plug-in was automatic (i.e. right click image > edit in > Luminar 4). It did not launch Luminar 4. Here is what Skylum Support provided ... for the Mac install.

Please try to do the following:
1. Make sure Lightroom is closed.
2. Open Finder, click Go > Go to Folder and paste the following path: /Library/Application Support/MacPhun Software/Luminar4/Plug-Ins/. There will be a bunch of files in there, the ones you're interested in have the following extensions: .lrplugin and .lrtemplate.
3. Open a new Finder tab or window and click Go > Go to Folder one more time and navigate to the following path: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules/
4. Copy the .lrplugin into the folder that you opened in Step 3.
5. Click Go > Go to Folder one more time and navigate to the following path: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/External Editor Presets/
6. Copy the .lrtemplate file into the folder that you opened in Step 5.

Note: You may be asked whether you'd like to overwrite the existing file in the folder or keep both, choose to overwrite in all cases.

Thanks for the install notes... didn't think Luminar 4 came out until Nov 18?

Yes, I thought the same. I pre-ordered it, as a standalone, and have been a Luminar customer for awhile. Maybe they are referring to Luminar 3?? I can't download it......

Based on my conversations with Skylum, they claim to have listened to customers and Luminar 4 can be a standalone and/or a plugin. Flex I assume is a bye-bye. See their response to me several months ago below:

Thanks for reaching out.

I just bought Luminar 4 but was having the same problem a lot of others posted about at the Luminar site ... the plugins would not load into Photos for Mac in High Sierra (and some other OS's too). I tried all sorts of suggestions and reinstallation, etc. and finally gave up on the idea last night. Went ahead and checked my updates to see if there was anything useful there that might help. Noticed I'd not done a Security Update for High Sierra... and there were a couple of photo apps that said there were updates available ... Photoscape X and Pixelmator. I went ahead and updated those (the security update was 10.13.6). It took awhile to complete and restart... over half an hour.

I don't know WHAT did it... but when I opened Photos a minute ago and chose the icon for plugins... there it was on the list! The Luminar Flex program I tried this past year even showed up ... finally. :-P

So... I'm not exactly sure what got tweaked in the system that fixed that frustrating problem, but I'm grateful. Just wanted to share in case this might make a difference to anyone else. :-)

To get any plugin to work with photos you have to go to the system preferences/extensions/photos editing and select the plugins you want. Not all programs will work with photos but Luminar 4 does.

I did all that... the Luminar plugin wasn't even showing before I ran the updates. :-(

I should have quoted your comment first. Sorry. I'd checked the extensions panel more than once during the laborious and failed attempts at getting the installed plugins to show up ... anywhere. So... I'm stoked that they are there now. Whatever happened... I'm grateful! I'd tried to install Luminar Flex this past year and it would never work as a plugin except on an old app I'm no longer using. It showed up yesterday too! :-P Yay!!!
