Tinkering: Setting Black Point

A cold, cloudy November day in New England prompted a few reviews of old photos that seemed a bit weak.

This May 2010 jpg of a fisherman on Lago Maggiore perked up somewhat just by using the Set Blackpoint dropper in PSE Levels. (Reprocessed in Raw.)

Nik D60, ISO 110, f/10, 1/250, 32mm, handheld. Cropped to 14 x 8 for near full HDTV ratio.

Critiques welcome and read.

You did good. Looks to be just about what I would see if I were there. I would give you an A+ on this one.

Fine, believable tones. I do have a red and magenta tint on my screen.

Thanks, Kozan and artBob. Bob, what monitor might you have?

I have a 2018 Macbook Pro. I trust the monitor, and when I went into Photoshop and clicked on a white cloud, and later other, neutral areas, Photoshop indicated that red was the color showing.

Thanks, Bob. How does this look?

The color seems more natural to me. How'd you do that?

You gave me your perceptions, so I went into two areas, Smart Fix, and Hue/Saturation. The Smart Fix seemed to do it best. The Alps, time of day (such as morning light), are a wonder of cloud colors.

Thanks for the feedback. In case it matters, I always save and post in Adobe RBG Profile, mainly because I print for customers, rather than screens.

That is pretty much one of the first things I do when opening files in ACR, adjusting the black and white points!
