Issues with Topaz MaskAl update

I don’t remember if this was discussed at one time,if so,sorry but I am going to complain & wonder how the rest of you who use Topaz filters feel.I have almost all of the filters from Topaz & have been very pleased with all the free updates but for some reason we have to pay for the update for Topaz Mask Al.I have Topaz adjust Al,De Noise Al,& Sharpen Al,all of which had free updates but not the Mask Al update. When I wrote to Topaz customer service asking why Mask wasn’t a free update I was told because it has Al,to which I said so did the other filters & they we’re free.I will not be buying anything more from Topaz in the future.I am curious to hear how you feel. Thanks for listening.

Marilyn, My suspicion is that Topaz purchased a license to sell Mask and include it in their software package. The license probably has a stipulation that the owners of the product get paid for their work.

In all reality, I've found that I can accomplish a lot of what Topaz does completely within Photoshop.

Well I think that stinks.I spent a lot of money through the years on those filters & we
Were told all updates on the filters we purchased would be free.I am sure if you know Photoshop well you may be able to achieve some of the same results but not all.I love their filters & I am really upset over this but I know Topaz could care less. Thanks for your reply.

. . . but not the Mask Al update.

I bought the filters at a photo seminar where they Demi’s Mask AI. When I downloaded the package, it was Remask. First person said was a different product but I could upgrade for 69.00. I raised a little stink that the switch was not acceptable and demanded a full refund on all products. Apparently someone thought it better to give up the AI rather than a refund. I have seen several other attendees who had the same experience.

Last week Adobe updated Photoshop (again). Key was "new and improved" selection and masking. Adobe says is uses AI. Find a YouTube on the changes. You may not miss, or even consider, Topaz for masking.

I use Topaz for things I can't do easily or quickly, OK or can't do at all, in Photoshop. They are convenient and easy to use and relatively inexpensive. They only problem I have with them is they keep coming up with new ideas I just have to have. Topaz GAS?

I love, love, topaz & use my filters a lot.I love digital art & there all kinds of filters that feed my soul.I just tried the new 2020 PS to remove backgrounds but I am not happy with the results maybe I need to keep trying. I would love the Mask Al filter but it is just the principle that all the other Al updates were free & this one should be as well. Maybe topaz has been sold or maybe they have a new greedy CEO,what ever the reason is I am not purchasing any updates on filters I already have!
