A Slow Day For Gratuities

It remindes me of our first visit to the USA, 20 years ago, when there was a sign in the bus from Los Angeles airport to Anaheim that said "The bus fare does not include gratuities for the driver".
The tipping culture is the only thing we do not like about vacationing in America.

Most of us don’t like it, either. Folks should pay their employees enough that they don’t have to beg for tips. I’d willingly pay a little more for a meal in order to not tip. It’s in our culture, though, and it probably won’t go away.

I'm not sure if this is still the case. In France I believe the tip is included in the final bill (service compris) in restaurants. Only tip, if you wish, another 5%-10% if service was exceptional or special accommodations were made. In this case round the bill up to the nearest whole amount and tip 5%-10% in appreciation. I'm not sure about other countries.

While tipping is customary it is not mandatory. If it bothers you, don't tip. In many "up scale" places for a party of 6 or more a tip is automatically added to the check
