November 10th is the US Marine Corp Birthday, and November 11th is Veterans Day. Formerly known as Armistice Day. Celebrating the end of WW1. Thank all of you for your military service. News for US Marines. The Pentagon has now authorized men Marines, to use umbrellas. Women US Marines could use umbrellas. I'm sure it won't be just any ole umbrella. Must meet US Marine Corp standards. Or, maybe a military issue type umbrella? Monsoon seasons abroad perhaps instituted the change?
Sampler Fidelis. To all who serve, THANK YOU!
Semper Fi👍
As for the umbrellas, I wonder if they’ll become part of the standard 782 gear issue.
(Do they still call it that?😊)

Thanks for sharing this.
My initial reaction goes with the “nos”
Does that make me Old Corps?
Happy Birthday, Gyrenes, and Semper Fidelis! Eleanor Roosevelt had it right.

Thank you David. Semper Fi right back at you my friend. Eleanor Roosevelt really did have it right. One of the best compliments Marines have ever received and there have been many in the past 244 years. For my money every one of them was well deserved.

I joined up in January 1964. Back then Old Corps was those who wore the very old utility uniform and not the newer more solid green I and my brother were issued. Nonetheless these days it would depend on how much of a boot you are. While attending a reunion we went to the Camp Lejeune PX. Younger Marines that looked like kids until I saw my own photograph from 1964 looked at us and asked if we had served in Vietnam. When we said we had their attitude became as I look at WW2 and Korean Marines today.
I tear up when I see these older Marines because I know somewhat what they went through during the Island Campaign and Korea. My father's best friend in high school was on at least Iwo Jima and who knows what other islands. My high school teacher was on Okinawa during some of the fiercest fighting. To say I have nothing but the deepest honor and respect for these men is an understatement. When we were kids these men were our neighbors and my parents best friends. We didn't hear any stories from any one of them but we did hear from our parents about what the Corps did as a group.
Not to leave out any other veterans on Veterans Day tomorrow. My parents also made much mtention of other friends of their who had fought in the Army on D Day. My uncle was a navigator/bombardier in the AAC. We came from a small town in upstate NY. Almost everyone served in the war. Hardly anyone came home unscathed.
Happy Veterans Day to all who served,
Dennis
