Fascinating as an event, compositionally, and technically.

The framing isn't the best, the boy's feet are on the bottom, but it was shot with a Leica with framing lines in the viewfinder and they are not easy in a fast moving shot

Actually, the composition seems fine, a radial, as shown with the structural lines in the illustration.. I do wonder, however, what caused the strange perspective distortion of what should be slightly converging lines, as in the illustration.

Here we go again. Let's call it lens distortion and be done with it.

I will add that if you edit, draw your lines on or in any way mark my pictures I will cease posting in here.

It is against the section rules.

So sorry you feel that way. Threatening others over what you perceive as my indiscretions seems unfair. I will not respond anymore to your photos. I mistakenly thought that you, like me, were a teacher, and would like to pass on knowledge, ascribing to Fair Use, understanding the difference between it and editing. Too bad you cannot answer the questions, as I would think others would find them helpful, you being so respected.

No explanation necessary Graham. The photo tells a story on its own and makes any technical criticism redundant.
For me its a wonderful pic and speaks for itself. Captures all sorts of elements. Movement in the girl, still fascination expressed by the boy. Love the low light too giving great shadows.

Thanks, and I thought it would be an All Blacks v England final, I'm glad I resisted the urge to put money on that. The best team won on the day... I take comfort from that

You started a section for your style of working, what happened to that? Perhaps that should tell you something. If the image was edited to conform to your squiggles who would notice?

I'm saying no more than that if you alter or mark one of my images again you will be responsible for my leaving. You know what you can do with your Fair Use. The rules state that you must get permission from the poster of an image before you repost it with any changes.

"It is accepted forum-wide that one must not edit another person's image without explicit permission to do so. The same applies in FYC. A request for permission often results in permission being granted".

Bob all I want is for you to desist from altering my pictures. You can write whatever critique you fancy but stick to writing and we will get along famously

Another fascinating moment captured, Graham! First, eww - what a creepy statue! I would love to know what the boy was thinking. And note that right leg - is he considering moving closer to touch it? A lifeless unmoving form, a jogger alive with motion, tied together by a hesitant boy and those long shadows. Quite amazing.

I did not edit the photo. Here's the first definition of "edit" found in Google (Merriam-Webster) (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/edit):
": to prepare (something written) to be published or used : to make changes, correct mistakes, etc., in (something written)
": to prepare (a film, recording, photo, etc.) to be seen or heard : to change, move, or remove parts of (a film, recording, photo, etc.)
": to be in charge of the publication of (something)"

I do not "change, move, or remove" anything. I ILLUSTRATE, as one finds in books on composition and in Art & Photography History books.

So, you seem to be out of order, and actually blocking learning. It appears you have done some service on UHH, and are much liked. Nice, but to "get along famously" as you request is not the goal of any good photographer, especially if someone dictates and does not have answers.

As you seem to not have answers to important photographic questions and instead attack people and twist English usage of "edit," I will most certainly not comment on your works, not just because of your defensiveness, but also because, in my experience the past few years, you avoid answering important questions about your work, and thus I and others learn nothing but to praise you.

This is so compelling. You and your works of art. The composition of texture and geometry interacts so interestingly with the moment.

Let me say that I have no, or claim to have, great knowledge of art or of the technical aspects of photography, I don't mind being called a "snapshooter". I do not feel qualified to be a "teacher" The most I can hope for, by posting on here is to get folks to look beyond sunsets, sunrises, flowers and pets. I'm not saying that all these are not worthy and beautiful subjects but I think that many people miss interesting things because they are always looking for the sublime and cute.

All of my pictures are of an instant, no arranging, no posing, no waiting for the right light. I enjoy the capture of something that has happened in an instant and is gone for ever.

I will add that I was a carpenter for 50 years so all of my skills (including photography) are gained through practical experience not college education.
