Frankly, you can't go wrong with any of the cameras that have been mentioned. I have the FZ300 and it is excellent. To get the larger sensor in the FZ1000 you will get a slightly bulkier and heavier camera than the FZ300, which matters to me, maybe not to you. Also, with the constant aperture in the FZ300 you will be slightly less at risk of blur because you will be able to shoot at a slightly faster shutter speed when zoomed out.

Why not do what I did, order the camera(s) you are interested in from B&H, compare them, and keep the one you like best.

ENJOY!

If you ordered from one of the shops that offer 100% satisfaction guarantee, you might consider a touchscreen. Darned convenient for changing settings.

Ordered from B&H. Should not be a problem if I chose to do that.

I have it on 2 of my cameras (80D, ZS100) and miss it when I go to the others.

I've used an FZ1000 v1 for several years now, including trips to the Harbin Ice Festival (COLD, especially night shots). Just got back from 2 months in China hiking mountains and some flat land travel. It's a great travel camera, given every year the mountains seem to get higher and steeper. I shoot just about all photo, with the occasional video.

It doesn't have a touch screen and I'm happy it doesn't as I use the EVF 99% of the time and, for me, touch screens just get in the way. I use the screen to quickly review the shot just taken in the seconds before it switches back to live view.

MUCH MORE useful is the fully articulated screen. Don't use it often, but certainly comes in handy for rising above a crowd, reaching the camera through barriers, or getting that ground view shot (all done on this trip).

A number of the buttons are function assignable, making my menu changes quickly accessable. I particularly like the push function on the thumb wheel that toggles between speed (or apature depending on mode) and exposure compensation. Burst mode useful for capturing action (eg butterflies).

My travel partner likes her FZ300 with the additional zoom, but I find it less functional, mainly because I am less familiar with it (for example no push function to quickly adjust exposure compensation). She takes many more videos than me.

Buy extra batteries (I opt for the branded Lumix batteries), and 64GB cards are my sweet spot.

I like the FZ1000 so much I bought another as a replacement when I dropped my original on frozen ground with zoom fully extended and the zoom no longer reached max.

FZ1000 is an awesome camera. Have had mine over a year and have found zero to complain about. For my use, don’t even miss the full bundle and bulk of DSLR previously used. Enjoy traveling so much more now.
