Classic great photograph. Since the seat/saddle is not necessary, following your statement (don't need the whole bicycle to get the idea) nor compositionally, I looked for your reasoning. My mind (I blame it) came up with the phallic nature of the seat/saddle going with the "feminine" nature of the basket as some metaphor for the relationship of the two people.

And the substitution of a beer for the post-event cigarette so loved in the old Movies.

EDIT: I also like my pictures to be quite expansive to include stuff that some might see as unnecessary. I appreciate the wider view. It's my way.

Why indeed? You got the whole story without being redundant. I looked carefully at the highlights in download. On my screen they appear to be a bit bright. There is still detail and nothing is blown out. I'm just wondering about your choice. I would have toned them down. Do you think that would make the image too flat? I value your opinion which is why I asked the question.

It's good to see you're getting around again, Graham. Didn't they make a movie about this with Natalie Wood? Very nice.

Still not getting out much Steve, the pictures are all old stuff. I have more surgery scheduled for the end of the month... this time neurosurgery, a laminectomy.

Graham...My wife, the retired OR nurse, told me that a laminectomy won't be a bad as bypass surgery and is probably one of the more benign and common back surgeries. She still would want to make sure to have a top notch surgeon do it. Best wishes and I certainly hope you feel better after you heal. I have back problems of my own, but fortunately it can be dealt with without surgery.
