Lock the Menu/Set/Cursor key on Panasonic Lumix ZS50 ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to somehow lock the Menu/Set cursor on the Panasonic Lumix ZS50 camera? I have searched the camera's manual and online, and even tried looking at some You Tube videos with no luck. My wife loves the camera but is constantly changing the settings inadvertantly while holding the camera as the button is really very sensitive. It has become such an annoyance that she no longer wants to use the camera.

There was some comments online that the Function button Fn1 and Fn2 can be custom programmed to make this work on Panasonic's (but it appears that it is only on other models and not the ZS50). Any thoughts so that my wife doesn't totally give up?

Very recently, I bought this camera (used) to keep in the car for those "wish I had my Pentax K5iis with me" moments. The menus are incredibly complex and I understand the frustration! Also, it's easy to cover the flash accidentally with your finger. I recommend the dpreview.com Panasonic forum; you can filter by product.

I didn't answer your question- I don't know if keys are lockable.

This is the problem with the ongoing proliferation of buttons. Learn to live with it.

I know, I know. "I need all those buttons because I use them once or twice a year. You spent the money, live with the price.

Not sure I understand your comment. The Menu / Set button is used on this camera a lot..... but once set during a sequence of taking photos.... it would be nice not to accidentally move the buttons to cause the camera to change to a completely different set of functions.

Thanks,

Well - I went through the Dpreview web site, and tried all combos of searches for the Panasonic and to try and lock the cursor key.... of course - found nothing. But I do appreciate your suggestion. Guess I will just have to figure out a way not to have wife touch those buttons while using the camera..

I put your question to the zs50 forum on dpreview, and I'll let you know if there's a fix.

No luck. It was suggested to download the pdf manual (the 400+ page version) and search for "lock." I haven't done that.

I did download the manual. Nothing found. I tried words like : menu - set - lock - function - control - custom - cursor....... but nothing mentioned about locking the key function of the menu/set (cursor). Lots of talk about locking the AE/AF functions but that is it.

Oh well - I appreciate your trying to help with this issue. Not sure what I will do at this point. Wife was very disappointed when several times the controls were ‘inadvertantly’ changed to something totally different than what she had set it for.

She does have another wi/fi enabled point and shoot style camera that is more button friendly. She may start using that one - and I’ll take the Panasonic as a quick grab and go backup to my Canon D6 MkII.

Thanks again.
