He had just scored the only one of the match. It would prove to be the game winner.

Epic collegiate soccer match play... Fabulous decisive moments captured with remarkable precision and clarity... Have benefited greatly from reverse engineering your settings... and concur completely with your expertise in SS and aperture... Nice to see exactly what experienced talent shoots with a 400mm f/2.8...

Loving the first and ninth images of what I make out to be the Marshall's team captain (from his arm band). With his golden blonde tresses, superb physique and chiseled facial features he could easily be a singed fashion agency model... Albeit his finesse on the the soccer pitch has likely been instrumental in landing a scholarship... lol

Outstanding series... by a remarkable professional...
Please keep posting as your time permits...
I'm a major fan now...

btw... the last image with the 70-200mm f/4 is totally awesome... and you were even zooming it down to 155mm... that is some amazing photographic wizardry at close proximity... cropping in camera at that range for sports-action is phenomenal! fabulous use of low angle "golden hour" sunlight...

Again, thank you so much for sharing your artistry...

These are all great!! I do agree on the last one though, you can't put a price tag on emotion and that shot captures it all. Keep it up muphoto and post more please you definitely know what you are doing and we all on here benefit from that. I'm old forgetful, have you ever posted what you shoot with and some settings you use like on these? Thanks

Tom

Excellent work.

What I am learning from you (and several others that are shooting soccer) is that the split second before a player kicks the ball can be even more dramatic than just after. the difference between the first shot (which, I agree with Thomas, is stunning) and 8th, shows this well.

Timing on the interaction between the players fighting for the ball in between these two shots is superb.

Will need to download to see your settings (once I get to my really computer!)

Excellent work sir!

Thanks Tom.
I was shooting with a Nikon D850 and switching from back and forth from a Nikon 400 f2.8 and a Nikon 70-200 f4 lens. For sports I usually use aperture priority set at f4 or 4.5 and then let the shutter speed take care of its self. Of course I keep a close eye on the speed to keep it as fast as possible. This match started at 3 in the afternoon and at this time of the year the light was fading fast so I had to change my ISO from time to time. If I remember correctly I started out at ISO 200 and finished around ISO 2000.
Very little post processing was done, just crop to the action and open up some shadows when shooting into the sun. I like to get it right in the camera so I dont have to spend my time at the computer. I shoot mainly JPGs, especially sports.
