Lightroom Update and Last gasp of fall

Taken almost 2 weeks ago. I went to start working on some I had taken that day and Lightroom up dated. I had used it this morning and the same old going black every little bit and eventually coming back. Then the update. Seems to be working now except...everything since brought into Lightroom since 9/2017 has to be reimported to the library if I want reprocess anything. Not a big deal or even a hassle really. Just a strange observation.

What if you reopen a saved catalog file?

So, do you have to re-edit those files, too?

No, just reimport. My Lightroom is verison 8.41 though. I suspect there was something, maybe a program that it was not playing well with. Probably a antivirus or antimalware. I checked last night and 9/2017 was when I purchased my computer.

If I lost all my LR content back to some date earlier than my first LR install, I'd go berserk. You've left us wondering what exactly happened. If you are missing data, you should be on a chat with Adobe asking for help to find and restore that missing data. I would not be making manual corrective actions that may actually be exasperating the issue. I'd get help on how to find a back-up and either fall-back to a backup LRCAT file or getting help on how to import from the old LRCAT into my current LRCAT. The Adobe chat can help. They're there via your subscription.

I have all my data just not in my catalog. I have not gotten a satisfactory reply from Adobe. I have been using LR for several years. It has everything from before I replaced my computer in 2017. I put everything from camera card into a folder by year, then into a file by date with a descriptor. I put the card data into it and rename the card file to the same name. I import that to LR. When I processes an image in LR I export back to that date with a descriptor location. Then weekly or so I backup to an external drive into the same year folder. Then just in case a meteor crashes into my house and takes out my computer and external, I back up nightly to an off site service. I have several years stored there. And just in case they go down I have a safe with a external for each year (since 2005) stored in a safe. My wife says I am anal.
