I used the RX 100 miii then finally decided to try the mvi for the reach, giving up the f. Stop.
THEN they came out with the mvii a few weeks later...urggghh
GAS is great, I think the the vii is probably worth the change for you. Good low light and reach.
I love the vi, it’s a capable camera and fun to use. When I come back from a trip, I have trouble seeing the difference between my a6500 and 100mvi photos. Amazing quality for the size..

It doesn’t have good low light abilities being an f2.8 vs f1.8 on the M2!

I am torn between my RX100vi and my a7iii. RX100 is so easy to carry and takes great photos, but it’s controls are small and cumbersome, and the pop-up flash is difficult to use in bright sunlight. My only problem with my a7iii is its size and weight.

Why would you bring the a77iii into this discussion? A tiny pocketable camera RX100 M2 vs something huge a7iii in comparison?

I have the RX100m2 because it has a hot-shoe. I can attach a flash. That is why I have stayed with the m2. I also mounted the filter adapter on it and a step-up ting to use a CPL on it

Totally agree! Have a CLP on my M2!

What I like about the RX100M7 is the convenience. It’s got pretty much everything that the A7III has, but in a smaller package, and you don’t have to change lenses. As far as the lens being “slow,” f/2.8 isn’t particularly slow, and f/4.5 isn’t bad either, as the M7 handles higher ISO settings well. Consider that Sony’s interchangeable lenses, for the most part, are f/3.5 at the best unless you want to spend mega bucks on their high end lenses.

As far as flash goes, I wonder if it’s possible to use a flash mounted on an L-bracket, and plugged into the charge port on the side of the RX100. That idea just came to me, so I haven’t had a chance to research that yet. It’s a novel concept, though.

By the way, I’ve done some comparisons between the M6 and the M7, and I don’t see a whole lot of difference between the two. The price on the M7 has gone up $100.00, so there is now a $200.00 difference, and were I to be buying one now, I’d opt for the savings and get the M6. Some of the upgrades to the M7 may not even be useful to the average guy who doesn’t sell their photos or compete in shows. I don’t regret getting the M7, but if I were to do it again, I’d get the M6. Both are amazing cameras, and the M6 has a better rear screen display. Don’t know why Sony didn’t put the same screen on the M7. I think they dropped the ball in that regard.

So far I haven’t been convinced to upgrade this fine camera as I have the Sony RX10M4 to fill in the blanks but the M4 Surely isn’t pocketable Lol!

I recently upgraded from the Mark 4 to the Mark 7. I loved the Mark 4 and must say that the Mark 7 is even better. Perhaps it is just my perception, but I think the color rendition on the Mark 7 is better. Has anyone else observed a difference in how colors are rendered?
Anyone who is on the fence about acquiring an RX100 should go ahead and take plunge. Money well spent in my opinion.

I recently upgraded from the Rx100V to the VI. Yes, the longer lens was an attraction, the loss of one f stop a slight nuisance that could be tolerated. But the main reason was the improved viewfinder action. I was really annoyed at having to pull out the eye piece everytime I popped the v.finder up. The VI and VII have automated this, and have made the camera use so much better IMO.

I’d love to see VII pictures compared to the II. Can’t imagine the IQ of the VII would be much better than the II excluding better rapid focusing, eye AF etc. The lens on my II is very fast and extremely sharp. I save my BIF for my Sony RX10M4!

Any thoughts about upgrading this fine camera from Sony users only? Doesn’t have much reach I believe 28-100mm but very fast f1.8 lens! I’m getting a GAS attack reading about the newest versions of this RX100 camera but the lenses aren’t as fast for low light I think. I bought an adapter for the M2 to hold 52mm filters and have a polarizer. Think that lowers the f range right? I also own the Sony RX10M4 to cover more range with a f2.4 lens but not pocketable by any means. What y’all think

The 7 and several others are slow as molasses. The 3 is a best bet upgrade with the fast lens and cheap. I have enjoyed a 3 for years and have no GAS for its much, much slower brethren, notwithstanding extra reach.. Same reason the 24-70 F2.8 is in so many bags as the best Nikon walk around lens...

Cheers!

I agree that the RX100 M3 is a better choice, given a faster lens, if longer zoom range isn’t necessary. I prefer the longer reach of the M6 and 7. Again, what is “best” is what serves the needs of the photographer the best. No point in investing in something like the M6 or 7 if that much lens isn’t needed. Seems to me to be a waste of money.

I bought the RX100 M2 used from KEH. When I switched to Sony I sold off my Lumix LX7 which was a mistake - I found there were a number of times I didn't really need my a7Riii and really missed a pocket camera even with my iPhone. I picked the M2 because of cost (I got it for around $250), the 100mm on the long end and the ability to use a more powerful flash. If mana fell from heaven I'd probably get the MVI or MVII, but for now I really like this little camera. I tend to use it for family shots at parties or just walking around. If I'm doing landscapes, better portraits, etc. I bring out the a7Riii.

I upgraded from the V to the Vii. Reflecting now on that purchase, I could easily have just stayed with the V and been quite happy without the upgrade.

I recently picked up a m6, I love it. I now have a full frame, crop sensor and 1". The m6 is so small and easy to take along. I picked it up because it would make it into the local music center for concerts and to have a camera with me in my vehicle. Keep it in the center console. I had a few times where there was the perfect picture and all I had to capture was a cell phone and just didn't capture the picture the way I wanted to. So far I'm impressed with what I'm seeing. Plan to do a side by side shot shooting to compare the images from all three.

When I go on vacation I only take a Sony HX99 and the Sony RX100 M2. The Sony RX100 M2 is my favorite RX camera for one reason only, I can mount a SONY HVL-F60M flash unit on it. I can turn the head so it aims up and behind me for beautiful flash results.
The RX100 II is the only RX 100 model that offers a flash shoe.
Yes the new RX100 has a 24-200 lens, but you already have the RX10M4 for reach, what you need is a SONY HVL-F60M flash unit for your RX100 II. If you get one, private message me and I will give you some things you can do to up your flash game.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I would not consider the 24-70 a walk around lens for several reasons.
1. too heavy to carry around for any length of time, especially on vacation.
2. zoom range too limited
The 24-70 was designed for, and used extensively by event and wedding photographers for years.
Again, it is not a walk around lens.
