Nikon temporarily halted preorders of the Noct 58mm F/0.95 lens.
Apparently demand exceeds production capabilities.

"NIKKOR Z 58mm f / 0.95 S Noct" started accepting orders on October 12, but it is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time to deliver the product because we received many orders exceeding expectations. ..." Google translation

They didn't say that they were cancelling existing orders, so maybe we will see some hands on results from actual owners next month.

I started saving up for one and already have $2.37 in the piggy bank.

A bargain at $8000 US. So you see, it wasn't a bad decision on the part of Nikon. Of course there is a market for this lens, just not among amateurs.

I see no reason for having this lens. So, I'm not on a waiting list.

Will it work on my D300? If so, I’ll order 2 since I like to have a backup. Oops, cancel that - at 83 I’m not so keen on manual focus.

My fast 50mm lens is the Nikon f1.4, a lens I am familiar with since 1963. My copy is not even new, it is a lens from the early 70's, single coated but very capable of beautiful images.

I don't know why anyone would want or need a f/0.95 lens. Unless to brag that they have a f/0.95 lens.

It will not work on your camera.

Interesting lens.
Once the hysteria is over it will likely not be in constant demand.
Currently I am happy with my 58mm f1.2.

Probably similar to my 1971 50mm f/1.4. Great lens and continues to work flawlessly.

Videographers may be interested in this lens. Still photographers not so much.

I agree.

The only real advantage to wide apertures like that is DOF, and I very rarely want really shallow DOF. Increased ISO capability can be substituted for light gathering capability.

And If I had $8K to spend on photography I might consider the D6 before that lens (depending on what the specs turn out to be). Or I might find something else to spend it on.

Nothing is as cruel as the bad luck of not being able to afford the newest lens.
