I took this image trying to get a feeling of being in a forest with the "breakout" scene of the river and sky just beyond where I was standing. That's why the birch tree branches are prominent in the foreground. (Not talking about the pine on the far left - that stays!) Do you think this would potentially be more effective if I cloned out the branches and just kept the pine trees, river and sky? Are the birch branches distracting or do they support the feel I was trying to get? Appreciate any and all constructive comments and opinions. Thanks!

I think the strong visual weight of the evergreens on both sides makes the bare-limb tree a non-issue. My feeling is supported by the leading line of the right-side shoreline. I follow that and don't even see the birch.

I don't get a breakout feeling, however. I think you'd need more "peek-a-boo" for that

Beautiful photo and yes, I feel the birch tree is a distraction as it blocks the water and your eye follows the top of the tree out of the photo. Again, lovely scene.

AH ha, I didn't even look up top

Tommy, I'd crop a bit off the top, or clone a bit of the tree away from top edge.

I would clone out that entire birch tree and take a little off the top. Just my opinion!

I agree with taking out the birch tree or at least cropping farther down from the top to at least remove part of the offending tree. Unfortunately people while make a huge stink if you were to cut down the tree and start over. The tree does detract from the image as I saw the tree from the beginning of scanning the photo.

Like a haircut - a bit off the top? I see what Linda and you all mean about the tree leading out of the frame - maybe this helps? My personal opinion is that if I cloned out the entire tree, it becomes just another vanilla tree / water / sky landscape...

I think this is a definite improvement and I don’t think you need todo anything more. It is a lovely scene and well composed!

I like either copy you posted , because that is the way nature made it and I don't mind . Now it is up to the person who took the photo , you . And what you like . Tommy

Tommy, I'd crop a bit off the top, or clone a bit of the tree away from top edge.

Or leave the top and clone out the 2 large bottom branches that stick off to the right over the water.

I’d spend my time getting back out to see that scene. It’s a beauty and worth a few more shots. Better to spend more time shooting.

I’d clone out the dead tree branches.
