Juts into the Chesapeake Bay north of Annapolis. If you boat or live in the area these will be familiar. The towers are a prominent landmark.
The point is USNA property. It was once a major antenna station during the cold war. It could reach a sub almost anywhere.
There were many towers, nineteen, I believe. One over 1200 feet.
Sixteen were brought down one day in December, 99. I missed that. Dynamite (or C-4 or?).
Three 800 foot towers remain. Inactive. An A.A. Co park now. Overgrown. Home to Bobwhite Quail. The only ones in the county, or for many miles. Sad.
A fine, easy walk. Now the towers. Can you say huge. Massive.
Here are a few views. Clutter is not to be helped.
A quick look on line will give you specs on power and range of the towers. I wish I could find the weight of them.
The towers.

Didn’t realize there was a sub communication network there. The size would be required for the ultra low frequency which has wave lengths between 10K and 100K km.

During my discharge physical the flight surgeon told me that had I been a few years younger and in WW II that I would have been on a submarine because I could hear the 16Hz used in intelligence broadcasting underwater.
