Went to the Photo Expo Plus in NYC last Thursday and Friday. Met some fellow UHH members. Met and talked to some world class photographers, saw and handled some amazing equipment. Got some valuable information from the manufacturers. A hello out to NJFrank whom I met there and had a wonderful conversation. Overall a great experience and wish I had gone years ago during the film years. Anyone else go and if so how was your experience?

I enjoyed the show. Checked out some wide angle lens for my EOS T6. Now need to my wife to buy me one for christmas.
Tried Lensbaby on my camera, great but out of my price range.

Hello back at you Ed. It was a nice surprise to meet a fellow Hogger. This was my third year at the Expo. And the first year I didn’t purchase any gear of any type.

I wound up buying some books at Rocky Nook, met and talkedto Scott Kelby, bought some paper sample packs, and bought a Dark cloth and a polarizer over at B&H. All in all a wonderful time. If you ever get up to the Boston/Providence area give me a holler.

I understand the urge to buy. So many things I wanted, yet in the back of my head I could hear "do you really need that?" probably a good thing.

I was there on Thursday and had a great time. I got to handle the z50 and the 500pf. I sat through a talk by Roman Kurywczak which was excellent.

Was there Thursday. Fewer exhibitors than usual. Sony was not there..usually in a big way. They opened their 'Creative Space' a few blocks away from the Javit's Center. I walked right past to my parking garage. Knowing in advance that some companies not exhibiting..I still decided to go. The big companies did a great job and gave us all 'hands on' opportunities as well as studio shooting options, if you wanted. I made a bee line for Peak Design, Drobo, and Hoodman. Peak Design coming out with a new-expanded Sling line. Drobo same as usual. And Hoodman has not yet updated their eyecup glasses line for the Nikon Z line. I did learn, to my amazement, that the diopter on the Z cameras are so versatile that I can take off my glasses and see through the viewfinder! It didn't even occur to me to try this out. But, still not worthwhile to me since once I remove my eye from the viewfinder..I can't see anything. It was a nice 1/2 day.

I went to both the Sony Creative Space and Javits show. I found the Sony people to be very knowledgable - was impressed with the new A7iv and the A9ii. Had a couple of questions about my A7Riii which I got pretty good answers on. Nice stuff but I'm happy with what I have. I did get a chance to play with the 100-400 - great lens - great price. I checked out the new Tamron lenses for Sony - only got to hold the 24, very light - I think Rokinon should be scared at the price point; also checked out a lens there for a Nikon shooter - again impressed. A buddy is considering updating his Olympus pen - I was very impressed with the new E5Markiii. I liked the new Peak Design tripod - I have a lot of their stuff. There was one booth with large photos on aluminum - I think they were 40 X 50. Wanted to discuss filters at Breakthrough, their guy wasn't that knowledgable. Sony had the best-looking model imo - I might be old but I'm not dead. The Nikon and Canon booths were jammed, as was the Skylum-Luminar.

No Leica, Hasselblad or Rokinon. I did get a note from Hasselblad to stop and visit - I'd love to see their new camera - can't afford it but would still like to have seen it.

I had cellulitis in both legs the week before so the walk there from Penn Station was painful; I took a cab back - it took 4 tries for me to understand the cabbie if I wanted to pay by cash or card. I probably should have sat for the lectures, but didn't want to stay long. Next time, I'll stay overnight. Traffic jam all the way back to the station a 2:30 PM - great place to visit; but I'm glad I live in Suburbia. The thing that I enjoyed most was the people - if anyone wanted to see diversity it was at the shows.

I didn't attend but two of my shots were displayed in the myriad of shots.
Wish I had been there.
Stay well.

Need-want. Want-need. The proverbial and eternal interrogatory

Would this ever come to Chicago or is it a NY thing?
Would love to go!

Thanks
Well like so many, when one lives here it’s no big deal. Just another big town. Living near Chicago is enough for some of us.
Thanks.
