Many people don't like Facebook, and many people think it offers the T***h, the whole T***h, and nothing but the T***h. Nothing could be farther from the t***h. Facebook has a policy "...allowing any politician to lie freely in ads or free posts without consequences. Though Facebook has portrayed this decision as reflecting the nation’s ideals of unfettered political speech, civil rights leaders say they see another value emerging preeminent in Facebook’s calculations: the unfettered quest to profit from political advertising."
So, just because you read it on FB, don't automatically think it's true.

That’s not limited to Facebook. Essentially all media have gravitated to fact free articles.
It is about the first amendment. If such companies were allowed to regulate we’d only see the extreme left stuff.

First lesson... If a politicians lips are moving, you are hearing a LIE....if a politician places an ad, its a lie, or at least a spin on their lie.

Social media has created 'Populist' Governments around the world. Politicians can post directly to the masses without any 'commentary' stating otherwise or having 'alternative' arguments made. They can also target groups and tell them 'what they want to be told' in return for v**es. Italy and the US have this. as does several African States. Boris Johnson our UK Prime Minister uses this. Nigel Farrage wasn't even an acting political member of any group at Christmas BUT managed to get elected onto the EU....within 3 months!!!!!
Social Media isn't harmless 'fun' anymore....It is making a mockery of Politics.
It used to be that Newspaper's had a 'known' political standing....You bought into this by choice. But other papers offered alternative narratives. Now you have no chance to put a different viewpoint to people reading 'f**e news' on the internet. How many dispair at the Flat Earth proliferation of nonsense stated as fact.
George Orwell wrote about this!!!!!! 1984 and all that. He was right!
The UK is trying to drop the 'v****g' age from 18 years old to 14 - 16 year old. (depending upon what we read) What chance of getting a political astute government will that give us.
it is getting to be a sad world...!
I was raised on a balanced diet of UK politics; seasoned with such delicately tasty ingredients as The Monster Raving Loony Party and Screaming Lord Sutch.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_Monster_Raving_Loony_PartyAs such (pun fully intended), I have developed a healthy, discerning palate for t***h in politics, and am frighteningly allergic to dishes served up by both the Loony Left and the Rabid Right.
Which apparently now makes me a one-eyed man in the Land of the Blind... we truly do have the best politicians that big money can buy.
How did what so far is a reasonable conversation, and without personal attacks!, make its way into The Sewer, aka The Attic? So far in this exchange I haven't seen any of the usual bomb-throwers making childish assertions. Their absence is probably the deciding factor, since generally Attic exchanges devolve into insults almost immediately.
Could this be the start of something new? Jerry, keep up the good work!

Nice thought, but it is the attic. It will forever slide into the muck and name calling.

Jerry you are absolutely right. Items posted on FB are not always correct. But is it the job of FB to check every single item posted by politicians or anyone else for that matter? As always isn't it the job of each member to check out these posts for themselves to see which are correct and which are lies or s**ms?

Facebook admitted they don’t check much.

Yes they did. With millions of subscribers, I think I heard 2 Billion the other day, how could they possibly check everything?
