Anybody have experience with these two, I have the D700 and was wondering if the D610 is much of a step up

You'd be happier with the D750 in all ways, except maybe, the price. Since both are older cameras, used lowers the D750 sticker shock.

Somebody just posted a lightly used D750 on here.

I think the price is a bit high for a 2014 camera, even with low usage and a bunch of 'extras'. The post includes an offer to field offers, I'd start at $800 via a PM and offer to pay the postage for a UPSP fixed-rate 2-day box. If there's no offers at the current price for this older model, the seller might get more interested in this 'best' offer.

I have both. True the 750 is newer and arguably better, both the 750 and 610 are 24MP and have largely the same "Bells and Whistles." The D700 was top-of-the-line when I bought mine, but while it is still a very fine camera, it is a bit long-in-the-tooth now. Definitely step up if you can agree on a price. But IMHO, either a 610 or 750 for the price you want to pay should satisfy your photo needs.

It really depends on what you primarily use your camera for. Do you really need a full frame camera? Is cost a major factor? If you shoot wildlife and action photography often, maybe you'd be happier with a D500.

To answer your question, the D610 has twice the resolution of the D700 so yes it is much of a step up, twice as much.

Consider refurb D750. Every Nikon refurb I have bought came in new condition with very few shutter activations. Cameta extends warranty to a year.

Didn’t find a refurb on first look but Nikon has new ones for sale: https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/dslr-cameras/1543/d750.html

It's too late to buy the D750. The price is too high now.

Check the link above. It is much less than 610.

Or the upcoming Z50, which has 500 sensor.

The question is D700 versus D610. Both are full frame cameras and both use CMOS sensors.

The D700 is a semi-pro quality, 12MP camera from 2008. Very good for its time.

The D610 was introduced in 2013 and is a more entry-level, consumer grade 24MP camera. Also quite good for its intended customer.

A lot changed in five years time. Features and capabilities "trickled down" to more entry-level models. New sensors were developed and incorporated. Besides double the resolution, D610 also has greater color bit depth, wider dynamic range and higher usable ISO (tho essentially the same range).

D610 has a few less AF points, but some of them are "f/8 capable", meaning that more lens/teleconverter combos are possible. The D700 is "f/5.6 limited... I.e., none of it's AF points are f/8 capable.

They have similar continuous shooting rates... D610 slightly faster with 6 frames per second, D700 with 5 frames per sec.

D700 is more robustly built with better sealing for weather resistance. It also has a higher specification shutter..... 1/8000 top speed compared to the D610's 1/4000.

D610 is lighter weight and a bit smaller.

Several responses mention D750, which is considered a more direct update from D700.

Both D610 (2013) and D750 (2014) have been in the Nikon lineup for a while now and are due for replacement soon. Some Nikon "roadmaps" suggest they will be phasing out DSLR models, in favor of more mirrorless models in the Z-series. It's hard to say for certain whether there will be D610 and D750 replacements or if a single model might replace both. But, since these models may be replaced in the not-too-distant future there may be some favorable sale prices on them. And because they have been on the market for five + years and are popular models, both D610 and D750 are pretty widely available used or refurbished, for some possible savings. Prices for used and refurbished will further drop, if and when a replacement model is announced.

The question is i D700 /i versus D610. Both are ... (show quote)

Best reply yet, Thank you, my biggest concern is reliability and for the price I may be better off with the D610, as its newer, whereas the D700 while more robust, is older and less feature rich.

A question I might look into if considering the D700 (a FINE camera) is parts availability should something go south. The D610 (also a FINE camera) only recently went out of production so parts should still be available

The Z50 is an APS-C/DX camera. The D700, D610 and D750 are all full frame/FX cameras. A full frame/FX Z6 or Z7 would be a more direct replacement for D700.

Sure. The post was responding to suggestion of D500.
