Does anyone besides me still use the old Epson 2200 printer? It’s very slow but produces Excellent prints! I buy expired Epson inks on eBay for a song and use Epson’s Premium paper. I believe Epson out did their selfs when they first made this printer years ago. I’ve used newer Epson printers but the print quality is not as vivid as the 2200. I use the printer profile for Epson papers with no color adjustments. It’s amazing and thankfully keeps on printing!

Mine's still going strong. Wish it printed larger. That's my only beef. With Premium Photo Luster paper, it can't be beat.

That’s exactly the paper I use also! Fabulous!

Epson best photo printers by far. I use the 3880 and has never let me down except when I screw up.

I have one that I hope to use again. I bought it refurbished from Epson in 2006. I have made hundreds of prints with it, many excellent in the opinion of a photo instructor and a Lightroom instructor. Here's the long story: It sat in storage (in a house) for 5 years. Now I want to use it again. While cleaning the inside I broke a $3 part. "encoder strip" It is no longer produced but I found a source. I have an 11 page PDF exploded view showing hundreds of parts. And a Youtube video that explains how to replace it. I have about 20 old ink cartridges that I have been advised to try. But it appears I'll have to take half the printer apart! I'm wondering if I should send it to Epson or do it myself. (Maybe this is worth a separate topic.) Anyone have a thought about attempting this repair??? Many thanks if you do!

I'm not sure about your 2200 but I do know that Consumer Reports does not recommend Epson printers any more due to their reliability issues, which is really too bad. EAB Durham, NC

What? Epson makes many different printers! You should provide a link to that article. I don’t believe CR would ever say all Epson printers are not recommended! We’re talking about the Epson 2200 which is a Workhorse with Excellent reliability! Sorry don’t believe that.

I beg to differ! Still an awesome printer by today’s standards. Perhaps you weren’t using the proper Epson paper profile or Epson papers. I’ve printed many pictures and Never had a purple tint. Doesn’t really matter now because it’s not available anymore 🙁

I paid for Cathy's profiles for my 2200. It Didn't help, still printed purplish. My conclusion was it couldn't print neutral black and whites because it didn't have enough blacks. Printers theses days have black, light black, and light light black. Dead neutral now.

Hey, I'm actually dealing with a similar issue. I managed to break mine as well. I've managed to reinstall it, after a repair (another forum suggested using a strip of packing tape), however I'm getting a "general error" according to the computer. The encoder strip seems to be the problem, would you mind sharing your source?

Hello nykzero.

The second link, for compass micro, I think may be the best.

I have a few links to diagrams, videos and so forth. Let me know if you want them. It sounds like you did the repair? If so, was it difficult? I'm a bit leary of getting so far into the "guts" of the computer.
