I need to send 100's of photos to a friend for photo editing. If I use Dropbox, I need to convert to jpegs. Is there a program out there that allows one to send RAW photos to someone? I understand the basic premise is that the files are just too large. Just curious if anyone knows of a way? Or a program?
Thanks

How about an SD card in the snail mail?

Dropbox will accept any files. It is not photography specific. Your raw's might take a long time to send because of your link speed, but you can do it. You could convert them to DNG to save a little size.

As an after thought, I think maybe you are using the free version of DB. If so, you could send the maximum number of files it will take, have friend download, delete and upload more. Repeat as necessary.

You CAN use Dropbox to send raw?
As far as I'm aware Dropbox is a storage facility for all files not just pictures?

Why not put them on DVDs and mail them? A little slower, but there are no limitations.

Easiest way in Dropbox is to store them in a specific folder, then share that folder, rather then individual pictures, with your friend, they can then view at their convenience.

All great responses- thank you! I think putting them on a flash drive might be the simplest solution.

You can upload any kind of files to Dropbox but a flash drive is a good idea too.

Maybe my wi-fi is slow? Seems uploading to Dropbox takes forever! I may try again, though. Thank you!

Put the files in a ZIP file first on your computer. Then, place the single ZIP file into Dropbox to share, works regardless of the file types.

Is your problem the total size of "100s of photos"? If the storage size is the issue, you might do some culling of the images rather than dumping everything onto your friend for editing.

1. Snail mail on SD card or usb stick. (duplicate, of course)

2. Dropbox or Dropbox using .zip file. I have sent RAW files and screen shots to Olympus for the purpose of solving some software bugs.

Try the "Send Anywhere" app for MacBookPro, Android phone and probably other platforms as well.

πŸ‘πŸ‘

Sometimes we get so hung up on the conveniences of technology, we don’t even think about how old methods can still serve us well in certain circumstances.
