A while back I picked up a couple CD's at the local library - Street Corner Essentials. I suspect everyone remembers the more popular groups - Dion & the Belmonts, Monotones, Elegants, Capris, Danleers etc - but how about some of these names that I got a real chuckle out of: Gladiolas, Chateaus, Standards, Coronets, Dimensions, Ocapellos, Shields, Dubs, Five Notes, Four-Evers, Marigolds, Lee Scott & the Windsors, Lee Andrews & the Hearts, Pastels, Quintones, Sentimentals, Bay Bops, Sensations, Barons, and Dream Kings.

We all know about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper Less well know is that a fourth musician was offered a seat on the flight, but turned it down, saying he refused to pay more for transportation than his parents payed in monthly rent for their Bronx apartment. That performer was Dion DiMucci.
I think you are confusing Dion with Waylon Jennings

I remember seeing the line in the papers that he refused to pay more for the one trip than his parents paid for rent on their Bronx apartment. I don’t think Jennings lived in the Bronx.
