I enjoy the outdoor world and the valuable emotion it fuels in my imagination. For me, the camera is not just a recorder, but also inspiration for expression, excitement, and feelings I have about our outdoor world.
Enjoy.

Nice Set. Art for me as well, much of Nature too.
I totally understand what you are saying but, to me, and many others, the camera itself has not that much to do, if any, with inspiration. It is a means to an end. It is our servants. It is a tool used to record what we see with out eyes and at times, our mind. Sure, there's times when a digital camera allows us to go beyond what we mere mortals can see, but we are the ones who control the camera. As I said, it is the tool we use to record our art; it is not the inspiration or the art.
Nice photos...

But what the camera provides in two dimensions can be inspiring. When we look at a three dimensional scene we do not always put things at different distances together, whereas a photo does.

Yes, but the photo is a product of the camera, not part of the camera. The camera is the instrument we use to bring the photo into existence. The camera is a tool, not art. It is the brush and the paints, not the painting.
We are presented here with the two-dimensional images as a set, chosen by the artist/photographer. IMHO, the set is uneven, representing the full continuum of image as a record of reality to image as standalone artistic creation. If that was the intent of the post, it was successful.
To my eye, the last three pictures are the most “realistic.” The first three, especially the second and third, contain the spark of magic that transform the images into “art” that exists at a different level than pure reality.
It is the skill of the photographer and his tools that create these images, and then choose what images are chosen to be presented.
Great discussion. Thank you.
2 and 3 certainly have the magic!
David, these are really special shots. Unique visions of the things you saw and were touched by. It gives me warm feelings just looking at them!

Dave,
The emotion-fueled imagination you experience is unequivocally expressed in the great majority of images you post. There is no question that those images far transcend the realm of mere “record”
or “documentation.” This series is apt testimony to the above.

Excellent set of images, especially #5.

David, for me, photography is both, Art and Record. Just like the paintings of our country it is both.
