I was trying to capture this little guy on a branch, but he decided that he wanted to take off. I only realized that I had captured this when i was reviewing the pictures. Taken in Marshfield, MA. D500/Tamron 100-400.
I bird in flight is worth two in the bush. I know that not the quote, but it fits this situation. Neat shot and unusual.
Nice capture. I'm still trying to get one in flight.
Great shot. I have the Tamron 100-400 & still using a D7100 but I am considering the D500 for just birds & wildlife. Now if I can only get anywhere near as good a photo as yours.

Thank you (and everyone else) for the compliments. However, I am very sorry to say that I misstated the lens that I was using. Although I used the Tamron 100-400 extensively last weekend, that shot was taken by my other favorite lens - the Nikon 300 f/4 PF with the TC-14 III teleconverter. I apologize for the error.
The Tamron works well with the D500, and I use it almost interchangeably with the Nikon 300/TC combo, especially in situations in which I might need to back off the zoom. I have never used a D7100, but I used to have a D7500 before it had an fatal encounter with a concrete floor, and the D500 has been a very useful upgrade in terms of features, especially for wildlife.
Great catch ! 8-) ......thanks for sharing
A most pleasant surprise!
