On photo/road trips I sometimes attempt to use the actual road in a composition. This was taken looking south from the Mono Lake Basin with smoke in the air from a fire in the Sierras.
This is my first post in this section, I subscribed early and have seen some good work here.

This is a very engaging photo, Phil. I like that the view of the road ends abruptly - so different from the shots where we can see meandering for many miles. The indistinct blue mountain silhouettes provide the depth.

I'm not sure how many fires were in the northwest this year, but Yakima wasn't a destination for smoke, thankfully.

Thanks Linda! It is very satisfying to think my intentions were realized with this photo, it was all about the apparent short road. I shot another photo using a different road in a more conventional way. Those receding blue ridges are the real subject here and I played with them a lot...you may see more.

Oh yes, another winner IMO a great decision to place the road along the edge of the frame.

Both shots terrific. I especially agree with Linda's sentiment about the road.

I too like the way the road leads you into the picture then leaves the viewer in the middle of a cool symmetrical vista gazing in all directions.

Aside; if that had been a passing zone, compression would have made the dashes look like the yellow brick road.

Thanks Matt, it is good to hear from you. I can be kind of passive here on UHH and I get lazy about commenting on work that I like. I have enjoyed watching your photographic journey over the past couple of years! I appreciate your comment.

I appreciate your thoughtful and humorous comments Rich, thank you. Compression can be a useful tool at times.
