Hmmmm.... Kind of a case of the tail trying to wag the dog? As others noted, Adobe knew about Catalina well over a year ago but didn't have the wherewithal to update their software as others (Epson, for example) have?

Not sure which is the tail and which is the dog.
Anyway, updating an entire portfolio of software to accommodate Apple sounds like Apple is the dog here.
In any case, I am using Windows 7, which was made available on October 21 2009, and I am experiencing no such problems on my 8 yr old PC. I also support Win10 users who are also not experiencing compatibility issues. Adobe is correct in advising current Mac users to wait until the kinks are worked out. It seems both companies need to fix things.

Adobe is only one publisher out of many who software is having glitches running on Catalina. Catalina seems to be having more glitches than previous Mac operating system upgrades, and only days after the original release Apple released a bug fix. Perhaps it is premature to blame third-party software developers for the issues with Catalina.
I find it amusing that when Microsoft updates Windows 10 and people complain that their older software has problems running under it, the operating system is always blamed and Mac users suggest moving to their platform to avoid those sorts of problems. But, when similar problem occurs on Mac OS, the third-party developers are blamed. A bit of a double standard? Maybe, Catalina is just a bit buggy.

I too have been screwed by the Adobe - Apple interaction lack of care for its users. I am unsure who is more to blame.
After the Catalina download (which I truly regret) , I cannot import into Photos from saved .jpeg images after I do Photoshop work. This error message comes up…. Invalid: PHPhotosErrorDomain error -1.
So I cannot bring edited images back into Photo or view them on my iPad after saving. Before the "update", I had no issues.
There's an old saying:
Don't be the first
Almost every Mac OS-X needs a little shaking out. Wait six months before upgrading.
I just got a new IMac, updated it to the latest os straight out of the box then installed all my Adobe stuff and no issues at all. I may have avoided the issues because everything was a clean, new installation?
Good to know! I haven’t updated but was close to doing it after checking for 64 bit apps. I won’t do it now. Thank you!
If the whole reason for the problem is that Adobe is not supporting their software on 32-bit systems anymore and/or Apple is not supporting 32-bit software on a 64-bit OS anymore, Macs are not alone. Windows is going the same way.
32-bit software is dying out. Witness Google Chrome and Firefox browsers. Lots of other apps also.
All computers made in the last twelve years or so are 64-bit hardware. That is one definite criteria that defines "old" computers. Software options for 32-bit machines are declining fast. If you are running a 32-bit OS on 64-bit hardware, you can upgrade your OS.
I'm not sure I understand your comment about Google Chrome. My version of it is 32 bit and I presume it will not run under Catalina. I assume it will upgrade to 64 bit at some point soon. Do you have any info re it's plans to proceed.

I tried to install my 64 bit copy of PS Elements, but cannot because the Installer module is 32 bit.

That's a pretty funny comparison of oranges to watermelon! Making a printer driver 64 bit is nowhere near as complicated as converting Lightroom/Photoshop. IMHO, Adobe did a bang up job, only missing a couple of minor things. It's not like Adobe had a copy of Catalina to work with for a year! Nobody's perfect. Best of luck.

Good news from me. I was able to change/ rename the file names by typing/ adding in the .jpg extension and now I can migrate and import. So not the end of the world for me. But in the future I will wait 6 mos to upgrade/ update anything Mac.
Thanks to all who helped.
