I had heard of this before. Odd situation.

"A man in the US started producing beer in his gut after it became colonised by high levels of brewer’s yeast. He began to experience mental fogginess, dizziness and memory loss in 2011 and had to give up his job, but doctors couldn’t work out what was wrong. In 2017, he was finally diagnosed with auto-brewery syndrome, a rare condition that occurs when certain gut microbes become overgrown and convert carbohydrates to alcohol. It probably arose after he took a prolonged course of antibiotics for a thumb injury, disrupting his normal gut flora."

That’s interesting Jerry. Antibiotics have their downside too, I guess!

This also happens with diabetics.
It's called "wine breath".
Too much sugar on an empty stomach can easily do that.
Some are more susceptible than others.

One of this season's Hollywood go to plots. There have been at least two shows using it as a plot device as we've seen both. Another is sympathy illness although they call it by some multi-syllable multi-word psychobabble name where a group becomes ill due to the suggestion of and sympathy for another. It has been used on three shows we've seen so far. Neither counts how many times on shows we don't watch.

No, the one I saw was a medical documentary, its a real deal, at least for this poor guy, according to the fix, he had to really watch what he ate, for him it was a natural condition, what initially brought it on I don't remember

Yes, it's a real deal and that's why Hollywood is putting it in any show where it will fit. Sort of like every show now has significant and sometimes numerous LGBTWXYZ plot lines since that's such a huge part of society.

Saw a portrayal of the same ailment on an episode of "The Good Doctor" last night. Sounded plausible.

I've heard that in some rare cases to get the gut back to the proper flora they sometimes transplant someone else's poop into the gut of the affected persons gut.
