In a local community photo contest with 6 judges my entry of “Fish Splash” won 1st place in the category of “ Use of Technology “ and as an extra bonus won “Best of Show “.
All the photos will stay on display in the Mission Viejo library till October 27th.

Contests are misleading in my opinion. It’s all about the preference of the judges. It doesn’t necessarily reflect which photo is best. I’ve had a sour experience before where one of my photos which I thought was really good didn’t even make it into the show. I submitted the same photo in another contest and it won in its category.

You have spoken truth about contests: It's all about the judges' preference. Back when I was showing horses, I'd get really upset about getting the gate after a perfect go. One old experienced trainer getting the gate right behind me said, "remember when you enter you're paying for one person's opinion." Same is true of photography contests. Nice image, by the way, nicely presented.

You and I are on the same page about opinions of judges. Since I won first place in my category and best of show, all it means is that the photo was well received by the judges. There were several other photos that could have taken the top awards easily.
