In June, we met up with RRS and Helma for the second time in Yellowstone. We got a couple shots of this pausing loner as we scrambled up a hill to get mostly backlit shots.
Not a bad download.

He looks a little scraggly, if that’s a good word.
For me, any shot of a wolf makes for a good day! We have many miles in the park and have made trips and never seen even a distant wolf.
We watched these guys, three Bison and four wolves, ignore the ravens on the right, chase each other for about half an hour. There was a small Bison carcass and the wolves wanted it, but eventually left.
This was a long shot with a 600F4 and a 1.7 TC.
Very nice . It capture his or hers vitality!

Kathy claims is a female known for running alone in this area. LOL, who am I to argue. She follows a wolf forum daily.
You caught her scruffiness well!

They won't win many awards for neatness!

Thank you and at some point I'll select a few others.

Thank you for commenting! Maybe we'll make one last trip in spring of 2021. Our bodies are tiring!
I'm sure RRS will be there!
I have been hoping to see some of your Yellowstone shots ! 8-) ....That Wolf looks hungry !
Did you rent the 600 ??
Who/what is RRS ??
.
Great captures ... & you are right about it being special to capture wolves. Saw 2 Gray Wolves in Lamar YNP this past spring ... they were watching 2 Grizzlies ... a female with last year's cub chewing on a carcass until a big male Grizzly came over the hill at which point the female & cub ran off & the wolves pounced on the carcass for a few minutes. After running off ... the female walked back to the male with the cub following her at a distance. She always stayed between the cub & male I suspect to protect the cub (males kill cubs to drive the female into estrous) but eventually the 2 adults mated ... all seemed interested in a carcass ... but the Grizzlies clearly ruled ownership. Thanks for sharing.

RRS, Ron, is a long time Hogg for several years and is from Washington. We shot with him in 2017 the first time. I rented the 600 E for a few weeks in lieu of Kathy feeding me to the wolves. Nice lens and shoots well with the 1.7 and okay with the 2X. I made a quick trip to Fl, worked hard and drove back a couple weeks ago. I didn't even bring a camera...not a pleasure trip. We'll see what Feb brings.

It's quite a show to see the wolves and grizzlies share a carcass. Some chasing and cautious feeding that usually precipitates a standoff and eventually the wolves skulk off. We did observe a pack of seven near the Buffalo Ranch, but too far off to capture. Lamar has been good to us!
