Lots of logs, where is this?
A load of lodgepole pine in Livingston MT. Most of the larger sawmills in the state have closed due to the difficulty the US Forest Service has in bringing a timber sale to fruition. Think environmental lawsuits. The large majority of timber in this Mill comes from privately owned lands.
Tell me about Forest Service Timber Sales! Too bad it had to end that way. At one point in my career as a forester I was the company's representative dealing with our Forest Service Timber Sales. Now the Wilderness areas have reduced the growth of growing stock to the point timber sales are too small and there are no forester's left that understand how to prepare a timber sale. Sorry, I had to vent.
I'm with you. My dad was a logger in the Flathead NF years ago. Our sawmill sells scraps for firewood at $25/ ton for seniors so I hear my house for about $175 per year. I hope this Mill stays open for many years.
LOL. I heat my house for 175. Costs me more than that to HEAR anything!
