I'll be visiting the Las Vegas soon for the first time. Can my fellow Hoggers give suggestions for areas or subjects to shoot? Thanks in advance.

If you like street photography, lots of opportunity on the strip.

Something different:
Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park is in southeastern Nevada, about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. This 40,000+ acre park features beautiful red rocks that almost look as if they are on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays. Valley of Fire Highway runs through the park and provides plenty of great views with easy access. Hiking trails are also available for even more views. The park also is home to many petroglyphs, most noteably at Mouse’s Tank and Atlatl Rock.

I highly recommend Red Rock Canyon, just west of Las Vegas.

Red Rock Canyon is great as RLSprouse says. Another great place is Valley of Fire State Park, about an hour to the northeast. Enjoy your trip!

Valley of Fire State Park! We took a Pink Jeep tour there and they did a great job! Ask about Newspaper rock; it’s a huge red rock with loads of petroglyphs. Also there are numerous tours that leave from LV for the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Many include helicopter tour. We went to the South rim and did the glass walk. In retrospect, I wish we’d gone to the north rim instead. Bring a fast prime for night/indoors and a manageable zoom for the day.

If you want a little excitement, try shooting in the casino. You will meet security in a hurry!

Not funny. This is a serious violation to a casino and camera equipment has been know to come up missing. I know you are kidding but if someone actually tries this they could end up in major problems.
Casino's protect the folks that gamble in there establishments, most patrons would not like their picture end up in the possession of the wife, spouse, creditor, or as a news item somewhere.
Just a side, if you take your camera to Las Vegas, take care where you aim it. Even outside the Casino's you will find street photography dicey at best.
Patrons want to make sure what happens in Las Vegas STAYS in Las Vegas.

Thanks for all the answers for me as well. I'm leaving for Las Vegas later today and was thinking about taking my camera. Now I think I'll pass and stick to other places.

But, if there is a chance to go to Valley of Fire do take your camera--it's a very good place for photographers.

Rte 592 W to LV Expwy
Exit 41B, W. Charleston Blvd (Rte 159)
Left on South L V Blvd
It’s on the right, just before Garces Ave.

Take a trip up the Eiffel Tower and you can see and photograph the whole Strip.

As for shows to see I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed until it hurt the Blue Man Group. Also any Cirque du Soleil how will bewilder you. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/destinations/las-vegas/home.aspx I believe "O" and "Zumanity" sell out most often.

I second "old Vegas", i.e., the north end.

Also consider the top of the Stratosphere. Amazing views in 360 degrees should present some great photo ops day or night.

While at Red Rock Canyon be sure to try out the buffet at the restaurant. It is fantastic. Also when taking pictures of the canyon try not to wear eye glasses that have a polarizer in them it will throw off the real color scheme. Such as transition lens.

Henderson is on the river and has river taxis. Good photo ops. They have lots of classic cars too.
After Henderson, you can continue on to Oatman, AZ. The photo ops here are endless and your wife will be entertained too. Oatman is an old Western town with wooden sidewalks. At some point in the day wild donkeys wander in looking for carrots. Many of the shops in Oatman sell carrots. It is easy to spend an entire day here with a camera. The trip to Oatman is worth some scenic shots too.

I love all the photo ops in Vegas but when I go I find at least one day for a road trip to one of three places.
Death Valley 2- 1/2 hour drive
Zion National Park 2- 1/2 hour drive (FANTASTIC)
Mt. Charleston area 45 minutes north

The Neon Museum. Go near dusk on the last regular schedule tour. The lights will turn on. They have a special night tour but it is usually sold out and this is how you can get some of the shots. Ambient light is better too.

Hoover Dam is in suburban Vegas and is a great tour, even my wife was excited to visit it. The Grand Canyon however, is a days drive from Vegas.

I would second the recommendations for both Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park.

Valley of Fire in addition to amazing red rock formations also offers opportunities to shoot Big Horn Sheep, sometimes right along the roadside.

Additionally, lots of evening/night time opportunities along the strip as mentioned like Biaggio, etc.

Biaggio is a piazza shop in Vegas, the name of the casino is Bellagio. If you have time Death valley is 1.5 hours away and I believe the 2nd largest Ntl Park in the lower 48
