No not salt but some chemicals that bubbled up from beneath the lake - quite fascinating to examine up close much like some coral and volcanic formations I've seen. I spent more time exploring the ones around the sore line than shooting the ones in and along the water

Volcanic vents bubbling up extremely hot, mineral-laden water from when Mono Lake was significantly deeper and the volcanic activity was considerably more active.
